Why what's in your candle is important- and what makes us different

Connecting Home Fragrance with People and Planet
Connecting Home Fragrance with People and Planet

Provenance is something that drives us deeply at Kyrra. You may be surprised to know that most small to medium sized fragranced candle brands use pre-blended "off the shelf" fragrance blends from a small number of large producers. These blends often have little or no information on where they came from, who made them or what the manufacturing process involves.

We don't like that. Our fragrance blends are the heart and soul of our products, and every single one is developed start to finish in house. We know where each of our essential oils is sourced from and how it was manufactured. We actively seek to avoid environmentally damaging or harsh extraction processes. And we're constantly striving to do even better- so that every element of our product makes a positive difference to society.

Our latest fragrance - to be launched this Summer- is our first certified organic blend. Not only that, but it's the first to use ingredients from our Community Oils™ initiative - certified organic and sustainably wild harvested oils from small tribes in Angola, helping to support the livelihood of people in the most resource-poor areas in the world.

Of course, regulation and safety are also paramount to us- so all of our blends are independently assessed by a qualified cosmetic chemist, and our data is available on the UFI database for ultimate reassurance and transparency.

The wax in our new organic candles is a pollinator-positive blend which helps to encourage biodiversity. More on that in a future post...

And don't forget our packaging- every aspect is a labour of sourcing love. Our core range includes a beautifully fleck textured 80% recycled and 20% FSC certified blend for the outer sleeve. And our new organic range will be sleeved in a very exciting new card- we can't wait to share more detail closer to launch.

It's easy to get drawn in by marketing when it comes to luxury fragranced candles- and of course, a great brand and a lovely fragrance are very important. But if ethics and sustainability are important to you then do check for transparency and be wary of "greenwashing".

Remember, there are brands are charging over £100 for "natural and ethical" candles that provide very little information about their sourcing and materials.

We are the first to admit that our candles aren't cheap- and aren't intended to be. But we we do guarantee that the quality and provenance makes them excellent value, and we hope you'll find them money well spent.
